"ODS is basically, suspension for your head."
Omni-Directional Suspension™ technology is an active, in-helmet suspension and energy management system. The system reduces energy transfer to the brain over a wider range of energy demands, including low, mid, and high-velocity impacts for both linear and angular acceleration. This is achieved through the use of a suspended dual-liner assembly that can displace and shear in any direction upon impact.
A root cause to brain injury and concussion.
Angular acceleration is defined as the rate of change of angular velocity over time. Angular acceleration is generated from oblique angle impacts to the helmet’s surface and is particularly concerning to one’s health and long-term well-being. The medical community agrees that angular acceleration is a leading cause of concussion (a mild-traumatic brain injury (MTBI)), and traumatic brain injury (TBI). These types of injuries occur from oblique impacts to the helmet and are serious. The result of this type of impact, and subsequent energy transfer to the brain, is shearing, tearing, compression, and rotations of the brain within the skull.
Experiments conducted by David C. Viano, PhD. M.D. at the Bio-Engineering Center at Wayne State University confirmed that a helmeted head sustained the same degree of angular acceleration as the un-helmeted head when subjected to identical impacts.
Where helmets need to be better.
Recent medical research has revealed concerning findings regarding the causes, severity, and long-term consequences of concussions. It is now understood that even seemingly minor concussions, often dismissed as simply "ringing the bell," can have significant implications for the long-term health and well-being of the brain. Studies have documented that concussions can occur at impact forces as low as 60g's in adult males, with potentially varying thresholds depending on the location of impact. The threshold for concussions is even lower for women and children.
Most real-world helmet strikes qualify as low-threshold energy impacts, which fall below the certification pass/fail thresholds but are severe enough to cause concussion or worse. Traditional helmets, designed to meet high-velocity certification requirements, are often too stiff to effectively absorb energy from impacts at these most common lower-velocity impacts. However, 6D's proprietary Omni-Directional Suspension™ technology addresses this issue by instantly engaging upon any force application to the helmet. This unique feature dramatically improves low-threshold energy compliance, and therefore enhances rider safety and minimizes the risk of injury.
By combining advanced energy management with the ability to respond to a wide range of impact forces, 6D helmets with ODS™ prioritize rider safety and provide a crucial advantage over conventional designs. The progressive and compliant nature of the ODS™ system ensures enhanced protection during real-world crash scenarios, where low-threshold energy impacts prevail. With 6D helmets featuring Omni-Directional Suspension™, riders can have confidence in their equipment's ability to mitigate the risks associated with concussions and other head injuries.
The greatest potential for severe injury.
Every 6D helmet is meticulously crafted to provide comprehensive protection in all crash impact scenarios. Among these events, real-life high-velocity impacts pose the greatest challenge, demanding optimal performance and protection from the helmet. Ideally, a helmet should effectively manage significant energy levels while incorporating forgiving materials and advanced technology to mitigate energy transfer. It should strike a balance between structural integrity and flexibility, ensuring adequate protection without compromising safety.
6D's design strategy, rigorous testing, and meticulous manufacturing efforts are dedicated to meeting these goals with an all-encompassing helmet. The combination of innovative design, thoughtfully selected materials, and cutting-edge ODS™ technology enables 6D helmets to excel in managing high-energy impacts. This comprehensive approach provides the best opportunity for the helmets to remain intact and capable of providing the necessary protection without being overly rigid. With 6D helmets, riders can trust in a solution that offers optimal energy management and safeguarding capabilities across a wide range of impact scenarios.
Note: High energy impacts can vary in terms of deceleration, occurring at different rates, such as slowly, rapidly, or instantly. These variations significantly impact a helmet's ability to provide effective protection. It's important to consider that hitting a hard immovable object at speeds greater than 20 mph can reduce the protective capabilities of all helmets.
A helmet that works in all types of impacts.
The 6D helmet is designed to provide effective protection for all types of impacts, regardless of their size. At the core of this superior protection is the ODS™ technology, often referred to as "Suspension for your head." ODS™ is not only the most effective energy management solution currently available, but it is also a truly unique design.
Unlike other technologies on the market, ODS™ surpasses its competitors by delivering exceptional performance across the entire range of impacts, whether they are low or high, linear or angular in nature. The key differentiating factor lies in its patented suspended dual liner system, which sets it apart from the rest.
With ODS™, the 6D helmet offers an unparalleled level of protection, ensuring the utmost safety for riders in various impact scenarios.
WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS?
MOTORCYCLE:
DOT: The U.S. Department of Transportation establishes the legal federal standard for motorcycle helmets used on public roads and property in the United States. Instead of "approving" helmets, the DOT mandates that helmet manufacturers certify each model sold in the US to meet the DOT standard. The current federal standard is FMVSS 218.
ECE: The Economic Commission for Europe sets this standard, which is widely used by most European nations. The current ECE standard is ECE 22.06
FIM: This is the most recent standard for motorcycle helmets used in professional motorcycle racing. The FIM test standards are established by the FÉDÉRATION INTERNATIONALE DE MOTOCYCLISME (FIM), the global governing body for professional motorcycle racing.
AS/NZS 1698:2006 is an Australian and New Zealand standard for motorcycle helmets. It sets safety requirements for design, construction, and performance. Helmets that comply with this standard provide reliable protection for motorcycle riders in these countries.

DETERMINING CORRECT HELMET SIZE
Ensure a Snug and Secure Fit: Your helmet should provide a secure fit around your entire head circumference. Cheek pads should offer firm support against your cheekbones, minimizing lateral movement. Our helmets offer various shell options, cheek pads, and liners for a personalized fit and exceptional comfort. Refer to our simple guide below to get started. For any inquiries, please reach out to us through our online contact form.
Measure your head circumference: Use a soft tape measure to measure horizontally around your head, approximately one inch above your eyebrows and half an inch above each ear. This will provide your largest reference measurement for sizing.
Consult the size chart: Cross-check your head measurement with our sizing chart to determine your correct helmet size.
Select the closest match: Choose the helmet size that closely corresponds to your head measurement. If your head size falls between two sizes, try the smaller one first. Often, helmet pads and liners can be adjusted for a customized fit.
Checking for proper fit
Ensure a Proper Fit: To determine if you have selected the correct helmet size, follow these steps:
Position the helmet correctly: Ensure your head is fully seated inside the helmet, making contact with the comfort liner on the crown of your head and around the entire circumference. The cheek pads should provide a firm fit against your cheekbone area.
Test helmet movement: With the chinstrap securely fastened, grip the helmet firmly with both hands. Without moving your head, attempt to move the helmet up and down and from side to side. You should feel the skin of your head and face being pulled over your skull as you try to move the helmet. If the helmet easily moves without this sensation, it is too big and a smaller size is needed.
Check rotational stability: Try rotating the helmet forward around your ears. It should not be possible to remove the helmet in this manner if the chinstraps are properly fastened.
If you cannot achieve the described fit and adjustments, DO NOT USE THE HELMET as it may result in serious injury or death. Replace the helmet with the correct size for optimal safety.
